Welcome to the Counting Corals pilot site. Once we secure funds, Dr. Samantha de Putron, a coral reef biologist here at BBSR, will lead the team in developing an identification guide for coral and other benthos. She will also take the lead in creating instructions for transect analysis.

For our proof of concept pilot project, we will demonstrate functionality by using the 2 online transects and the transect data sheet in the Reefs section. Dr. Samantha de Putron and Dr. James B. Wood will personally work with our High School Advisory Team to teach this years cohort of 20 students to identify benthos and use the transect data sheets to record data. The Amity High School educators bring their students to BBSR twice a year for their Subtropical Environments program and have worked previously with Dr. Wood to develop Cephalopod Lesson Plans as part of a subcontract of the NSDL CephSchool grant.
